Brief History
My name is Marc Fontaine and I grew up in the heartland of Caledonia County near the great Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. My parents were from Canada and started a small dairy farm in Walden, Vermont. My brothers and I grew up in a natural environment where we did farm chores and learned the ways of the woodsman. At an early age we were out logging and sending logs to the mills.  My brothers and I invested in the various logging equipment, a skidder, a picker, the logging truck etc. and we would take on logging jobs for landowners all over the Northeast Kingdom. I decided to move to the Central Vermont area, bought a good chunk of land and built a house for me and my three children. My brother Marcel and I started logging in the area and than we decided to build our own small sawmill, instead of selling the timber we harvested, we decided to do our own custom sawing specializing in timber which was used in the old days for framing and where ever a builder wanted sturdy long weathering lumber. We specialize in Hemlock, Pine and Cedar, we also do Ash and other hardwoods. Our saw is a Timber Mizer 70 and we can really put out the production. We also have one of the original Planning machine to do all kinds of surfacing and edging. We are located conveniently in East Montpelier on two of the major highways connecting all of the Washington County area in Central Vermont. Our saw mill which you cannot miss, because of the large inventory of HIGH GRADE logs we use to make the finished lumber is on Rt.14N. We have signs on US Route 2 in both directions and we are easy to find. When you want prompt service, high quality production with close tolerances in the measure, you can depend upon us for your needs. We are growing rapidly so if you are thinking of building soon, give us a call and we will put you on our list for the big job you have in mind. Our yard does have some varieties and sizes on hand so you can get started right away. Call us at 802-223-7719 or Cell 279-1313

Marcs two daughters, Heather is on the left and Jennies is on the right. Real hard workers. They are doing all the priming on this
building to preserve the wood. This is a post and beam building with all the craftsmanship done with old fashioned tools. No modern tools on this job and Matt Joy the builder does all this by hand. Timbers and other lumber of course supplied by Fontaine Forestry Millwork.
